Iraq Memorial Wall

The  Iraq Memorial Wall was started April 14, 2004 as a commemoration of  sorrow for those killed after the U.S. invasion of Iraq in March, 2003.

The wall consists of huge black panels, with the name, age, rank, and date of death of every U.S. soldier killed in action in Iraq. There is also a panel naming just a few of the Iraqi civilians killed; many babies and children have been among the dead. They represent a small fraction of the Iraqi deaths; there are hundreds of thousands: it would be impossible to name them all.

Every Saturday, from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM, no matter what the weather, members of the Central Jersey Coalition Against Endless War, and anyone who wishes to join, hold a vigil with the wall. Currently the wall’s panels stretch for the equivalent of two city blocks. The vigil is held on Raritan Ave./Rte. 27, north of the Albany Street Bridge in Highland Park, New Jersey.

In addition to the wall, people may bring their own signs, or use one of our signs, in demonstrating opposition to the occupation of Iraq. The response from people passing by has been very positive, with horns tooting, peace signs given and many “thumbs up.”
