RECRUITMENT EDUCATION

The goal of the Military Recruiter Education Project, otherwise known as "counter-recruiting", is to ensure that if and when a person signs up for the U.S. military, they do so with their eyes open, that is, with as much real information as possible. To this end, the Military Recruiter Education Project focuses on educating a range of people (parents, educators, school board administrators, young people, and anyone of enlistment age) on some of the issues involved in military recruitment.
Some of the main issues are:
  1. Military recruiter sales tactics, laws regarding military presence in schools and child database for recruiters, and alternatives to military careers.
  2. Influencing school boards to adopt policies to further the education of its students on the above-listed issues; and
  3. Direct actions such as maintaining a presence at Military Recruitment facilities to further educate the general public of the above-mentioned issues.

COUNTER-RECRUITMENT NEWS

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 leaves all public high school students susceptible to military recruiters. The recruiters are given full access to students' names, addresses, and telephone listings. Click here to read how.

Students Have the Right to Opt Out
For those recruiters telling school districts that opting out of military recruiting means opting out of college recruiters, the following emails from the Family Policy Compliance Office of the U.S. Department of Education make it clear that this is NOT SO! Students (and parents) can opt out of military recruitment alone. Click here to read more.
